Lister Mill
Background
Originally built in 1838, Lister Mills in Bradford was once the world’s largest silk mill, known for its grandeur and dominance over the city’s skyline. As a Grade II listed building, it stands as a testament to Bradford’s industrial heritage, with its impressive architecture and historical significance. Over the years, Lister Mills underwent a transformation, initially being converted into residential apartments and commercial units that retained much of the original character and features of the building.
The Project
In a collaborative effort between Schofield and Sons and Bolton University, a new phase in the evolution of Lister Mills began. This phase focused on repurposing part of the former textile mill into a cutting-edge centre dedicated to nursing and midwifery education. The goal was to preserve the historical essence of the mill while equipping it with modern facilities to support the training of future healthcare professionals.
