This project brief was to create two areas within the main corridor where medical and general waste from the Langtree ward and Intensive Care Unit could be stored securely. Working in close proximity to the ICU brought its own unique challenges. Namely, maintaining vital mechanical services when making alterations, compliance with the trusts Permits to Work policy, alterations to and maintaining the fire smoke extraction system, maintaining a high level of hygiene in our work area by using our bespoke hygienic hoarding, using dust extraction systems and installing tack mats at site entrances. We also transported waste off site in secure bags stored in a trolley with a fixed lid, controlling noise impact by only carrying out noisy works at agreed key times and maintaining a minimum corridor width to allow beds and personnel to pass unhindered.
